  19. Description of Working Group:
  20. The Uniform Resource Identifiers Archives Working Group is chartered to
  21. define a set of standards for the encoding of system independent
  22. Resource Location and Identification information for the use of
  23. Internet information services.
  24.  
  25. This Working Group is expected to produce a set of documents that will
  26. specify standardized representations of Uniform Resource Locators
  27. (URLs) which specify a standardized method for encoding location and
  28. access information across multiple information systems. Such standards
  29. are expected to build upon the document discussed at the UDI BOF
  30. session held during the 24th IETF meeting in Boston, Unique Resource
  31. Serial Numbers (URSNs) which specify a standardized method for encoding
  32. unique resource identification information for Internet resources and
  33. Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs), which specify a standardized
  34. method for encoding combined resource identification and location
  35. information systems to be used for resource discovery and access
  36. systems in an Internet environment.

  38. Such a set of standards will provide a framework that: allows the
  39. Internet user to specify the location and access information for files
  40. and other resources on the Internet, allows users and network-based
  41. tools to uniquely identify specific resources on the Internet, and
  42. allows the creation and operation of resource discovery and access
  43. systems for the Internet.  The security of such resource discovery
  44. services will also be considered to be an integral part of the work
  45. of this Group.

  48.  Goals and Milestones:

  50.      Done Review and approve the Charter making any changes deemed necessary. 
  51.           Examine the scope of the recommended documents. Review the first 
  52.           draft of a proposal for Uniform Resource Locators already available.

  54.    Mar 93 Submit URL document as an Internet-Draft.  Review additional draft 
  55.           documents and determine necessary revisions.  Follow up discussion 
  56.           will occur on mailing list.

  58.    Nov 93 Submit the URL document to the IESG for publication as a Proposed 
  59.           Standard RFC.
